SKATING IS DEFINATELY
A FAMILY AFFAIR

Sue-Tif-Courtney-Oaks Members
There is a great article in the Clakamas Review, about three generations of team members who skate on the Northern Dynamics Precision Team.
The team had had two generations,but never three. It is a great advertisement for family participation in our sport. The newspaper interviewed Sue, Tif, Courtney and Marlene and wrote a very nice article. A PDF copy available at

The team will be leaving soon for Nationals. They have been working very hard and is amazing how they can come together so well when they are so far apart for practice venues.
We want to thank, Marysville, Oaks, Auburn, Bremerton and Centralia for the help you have given us on finding practice times.
We will try to represent the NW the best we can !

Frank Walsh Passes Away


From the Oaks:
With regrets, I must pass along the news of the passing of one of our most ardent skating supporters. Frank Walsh passed away July 18th. He was 88 years of age.
Service will be Tuesday Aug 3rd at 11 AM. Saint Anthony Village, 3560 SE 79th Ave, Portland.

He will be missed.

UPDATE ON DALE MOHLER

HI MARLENE,
Here is the update that I promised after we got back the results.

Dale's Lymphoma of the B Cells is significantly shrinking. This shows that his body is responding to the chemotherapy medications as we had hoped for and getting his Cancer into remission. He still has the #6 chemo treatment to put behind him at the end of July. We hope for the best and IF the PET Scan shows no active cancer cells he may be able to be back skating for the fall season.

Congratulations to Mike Sheedy on passing his Gold Medal Team Dance at Regionals. Mike also has his Gold Medal Solo Dance which he passed two years ago. Lona Dennis partnered him for his test

Josh Englund of Sedro-Wolley, Washington, has represented the United States as a member of the USA Rink Hockey World Team every year since 2001 - and most recently at the 2009 Worlds in Vigo and Ponte Vedra, Spain. Josh began skating at the age of 1-1/2 in his family-owned Skagit Skate Center in Burlington, Washington.

This is amazing. Brought tears to my eyes! You may never have heard the full rendition of Il Silenzio, otherwise known as “Taps”. This is a most beautiful rendition. The girl's name is Melissa Venema and is playing with maestro Andre Rieu from Maastriecht in the Netherlands. She is 13 and has been performing for years. This performance is in 2008 Masstriecht where city officials sealed off the town square and closed everything down so they get perfect noise control.
